Lena Green, LCSW, CLC

Lena Green is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and psychotherapist currently employed at the New York City Department of Health & Mental Hygiene. She is the Manager of Mental Health and Strategic Partnerships for the Nurse-Family Partnership program; a national nurse home-visiting program for low-income first-time mothers available to women in all five boroughs of New York City. Prior to her position with the Department of Health, she spent six years working at New York’s Manhattan District Attorney’s Office providing crisis-intervention services, psychotherapy and group counseling to adolescent and adult crime victims and witnesses.

Lena is the founder and Executive Director of the Akira Center which houses 3 programs: 1) Fathers First which focuses on counseling, advocacy and support to fathers 2) Family University which focuses on healthy relationships, co-parenting and group based learning and 3) The Amherst Residence, which focuses on a residential support for pregnant and parenting young women.

Lena brings over 15 years of experience to the field of mental health, provides consulting services to several agencies and has a private practice located in Harlem where she provides individual and family therapy.  Her expertise is in the field fatherhood, trauma; sexual abuse, domestic violence, perinatal depression and parent-child bonding. 

Lena holds a B.A. degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, a master’s degree from New York University in clinical social work as well as 2 post-master’s degrees; one in the Treatment of Alcohol and Drug Addicted Clients from NYU and the other in Advanced Clinical Practice from Hunter College.  Additionally, she holds a Fatherhood Practitioner and Healthy Relationship Educator Certificate from Columbia University and is a Certified Lactation Counselor.

Lena serves on the advisory council and curriculum development team for The Dream Center Harlem, is a board member at the Helen B. Atkinson Health Center, serves as the co-chair of the Young Adult Ministry at First Corinthian Baptist Church and is a proud an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated
